Mikko Sarvanne Garden is an imaginary sonic landscape and a rhizomatic ensemble of shifting musical constellations, led by composer and multi-instrumentalist Mikko Sarvanne. Inhabiting the space between contemporary classical music, contemporary jazz and experimental music, the ensemble cultivates a distinctive musical ecosystem that invites the listener to enter, settle in, and wonder.

The group is often presented with its three core vocalists – Josefiina Vannesluoma, Virva Immonen and Selma Savolainen – whose grounded, versatile and sharply attuned performances have earned wide praise. Through Sarvanne’s blossoming compositions based on contemporary Finnish poetry, and the vocalists’ breathtaking interpretations, Mikko Sarvanne Garden opens new horizons for 21st-century vocal music.

Formed in 2019, the ensemble has largely drawn its musical world from Erkka Filander's book-length poem Heräämisen valkea myrsky. Their debut album of the same name, released in 2022, unfolds as a seven-movement suite performed by seven musicians: Vannesluoma, Immonen and Savolainen on vocals, Sirja Nironen on violoncello, Mikael Saastamoinen on double bass, Jesse Ojajärvi on drums and percussion, and Sarvanne on electronics. The compositions of the album Heräämisen valkea myrsky won the most prestigious Finnish composition prize, the Teosto Prize (equivalent of for example the Pulitzer Prize in the USA), in 2023.

After the album's release in 2022, the music of Heräämisen valkea myrsky has continued to take on new forms in numerous live performances. It appears in full renewed bloom in Iina Lallo's concert film Kolmesti: Mikko Sarvanne Garden (Live 2024), where it is accompanied by new music composed to a fragment by poet Milka Luhtaniemi. The film premiered in We Jazz Festival 2025, in Helsinki, Finland.

“With its debut album, Mikko Sarvanne Garden offers the curious listener abundant gifts, gently shifting one’s listening habits into new positions. After hearing the record, even familiar music begins to reveal new things.”

- Pia Antikainen, YLE (Finnish Broadcasting Company)

“The vocal glissandos of Josefiina Vannesluoma, Selma Savolainen and Virva Immonen, the cello of Sirja Nironen, the double bass of Mikael Saastamoinen, the percussion of Jesse Ojajärvi, and conductor Sarvanne’s constellation of electronic instruments together develop an enchanting and self-willed world whose dimensions seem to fall into a new constellation with every listen.”

– Matti Komulainen, Turun Sanomat

One of the highlights of the evening is indeed Aino Juutilainen's powerful solo [Mikko Sarvanne's composition 'Something twining trembled in the gaps between your morning whispers']. [...] The concert concludes with Sarvanne's heavenly beautiful composition, which, while listening, feels like transcending into a boundless eternity filled with light."
