For composer Mikko Sarvanne, music reveals places: abstract, invisible spaces of harmony, and tangible, physical spaces that are constructed in real time through performance. On ”syklit jotka puhkeavat” (eng: ”cycles that blossom”) EP, Sarvanne performs using a modular sampler as their instrument, loaded with sounds of stone, water and sandpaper. These sounds form crackling, bubbling cycles that gradually tear open into glowing pillars of sound.
”Captivating, meditative rhythmic weave. Something hidden between the cracks”
- artist Joonas Siren (Forces)
”While listening to the EP, I kept thinking about all kinds of creatures — beings and entities
somehow taking the form of stone and water. In my imagination, the stones had eyes and the water took on a figure. Then they held some kind of celebration at the boundary between water and shore, and played music that sounded like this.”
- choreographer Laura Jantunen
”I find this music obstinate, lush and irrigating at times, yet immediately inviting to inhabit it, to be submerged by the organic environment it evokes.”
- composer Lauri Supponen
